It’s a Problem All Too Familiar to Framers: Tools Damaged After Falling

I was fresh out of high school and working my first framing job in Park City, Utah. During the snowy winters, we spent a lot of time indoors fixing trucks and tools. We couldn’t help but notice there was never a shortage of Skil saws damaged from falls. No amount of careful placement or “digging in” seemed to keep these tools safe.

By the summer of ‘83, my boss Dean Mutcher, came up with a solution. It was the first retractable wormdrive Saw Hanger.

A Solution for Framers

By the fall of ‘84, I had convinced Dean to let me market the finished product. By then, we were working in Phoenix. I dropped a few hangers off at Fisher Tool on the outskirts of town. It wasn’t long before they were selling off the shelves. In January of 1985, Toolhangers Unlimited was born.

A few creative home builders on the west coast got a hold of our hanger. With some changes in hardware they were able to attach it to a Hitachi NR83. Suddenly, our retractable Saw Hanger had become a Nailgun Hanger!

Quality Has Always Come First

The Toolhangers product line continued to grow. I came up with hooks and hardware assemblies to adapt our hanger to new models of saws and nailguns. As I continued building custom homes in Colorado, my wife took over packaging and shipping the hangers.

As our product became more popular, the tool manufacturers caught on to the idea. Today, many saws and nailguns come with hooks pre-attached. These factory hooks tend to be flimsy, bulky or just plain useless. Many framers have found out the hard way that you can’t count on these hooks to keep your tools safe.

Our hangers are solid steel with zinc plating. They are made to last. After almost forty years in the industry, I know you are only as good as the tools in your belt. This is why I refuse to compromise on quality. And this is why Toolhangers are always manufactured in the USA.

Family Owned and Proud of It

To date, our hangers can fit a wide range of wormdrive saws, framing nailers, coil nailers, precision nailers and even a staple gun. We are constantly adapting current products and creating new ones as new tools hit the market. If there is a way to help another builder work smarter and faster, we aim to find it.

We’ve shipped our American made hangers to Canada, Australia, South Korea, Germany, England and beyond. Our family business continues to grow. We couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to do what we love.

I still spend my days at the job site alongside my son. And I spend my evenings packing hardware bags and hangers with my wife. I take pride in my work. Toolhangers was built for framers and craftsman who do the same. If you have questions about our products or are wondering if we have a hanger that fits your tool, I’d love to talk shop with you.
